Blog #2- Work Readiness Skills
When I went for my orientation at Hospice Heartland, I used my work readiness skills and the volunteer coordinator noticed. I arrived ten minutes early, which was good because the suite number for Hospice had changed, and it took me time to find the correct room. Monica Jones, the volunteer coordinator, mentioned to me how she was impressed that I was early. The second work readiness skill she mentioned was the way I dressed. She told me that I dressed appropriately and would like me to come to the following days of the internship dressed similarly. Since she went out of her way to mention both of these work readiness skills, I can see what a difference they make in being successful in an internship or future job. My area of growth for a work readiness skill is communication. I focused specifically on my eye contact and speaking clearly. Overall, I was happy with my communication skills and felt that I experienced some growth in this area, especially concerning the correct communication during an interview.

I think that it's really helpful that your supervisor pointed out your strengths! I would like my supervisor to do that, because no one has really said anything about if I was doing anything incorrectly or something. I also struggled with the communication at the beginning, but I think that skill just develops over time.
