Blog Post #2: Work Readiness Skills
Work Readiness Strengths Demonstrated
#1 The first work readiness that I demonstrated was strong communication skills. I realized that if I was going to drive or take the ferry into the city in the morning to volunteer, I would have to spend a lot of money and so I opted to take the bus. However, the only way I could take the bus was if I arrived at my internship a half hour late. I asked my supervisor at my internship if I could begin arriving later, so that I could take the bus, and she was happy to accommodate me.
#2 The second work readiness skill that I demonstrated was professionalism. I was careful to dress appropriately and modestly, as I was unsure of my work environment initially. My supervisor even told me that he appreciated me dressing professionally. Now that I have a feel for my work place it's much easier for me to tailor my fashion to choices to my environment.
Work Readiness Weakness Demonstrated
The weakness that I demonstrated was also communication- it is one of the skills I feel I need to work on most. I should have communicated about my transportation problems earlier on. Instead, I spent more money than necessary on transportation. Even though I wasted my money, I'm proud of myself for building my communication skills.

It's great that your supervisor recognized your professional workwear! And it can be pretty daunting to ask to change your schedule, but it's good that you got the confidence to ask for a change and that it all worked out.
ReplyDeleteI think it great that even thought you weren't sure exactly how to dress, you still dressed appropriately and professional. I be your supervisor was impressed.
