Blog #3: College and Majors

After high school I wanna go to college, and get a health and medicine major.

1.- Nurse: a person who is trained to care for sick or injured people.

  • Average pay: $66,640 (2014), before taxes.
  • Salary according to different geographic locations: states that pay better salaries for nurses are California, Massachusetts, and Hawaii.
  • Education: completed at least an associate degree in nursing or hospital-based diploma program.
  • Personalities: the qualities that make up a good nurse are sense of humor, professionalism, diligence, compassion and sense of deeper understanding to life.
2.- Plastic surgeon:  a surgeon specializes in reducing scarring or disfigurement that may occur as a result of accidents, birth defects, or treatments for diseases. Many plastic surgeons also perform cosmetic surgery that is unrelated to medical conditions.
  • Average pay: the current median expected salary for a typical Plastic Surgeon in the United States is $286,540 before taxes.
  • The best states to be better paid plastic surgeon are California, Florida, and New York.
  • Education require: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine(D.O.).
  • Personalities: all good surgeons are intelligent, team leader, courageous, creative, and demonstrate perseverance on behalf of their patients. 
3.-Emergency physician: is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for acutely ill patients.
  • Average pay: the median expected annual pay in the United States is $259,790
  • Salary according to different geographic locations: Doctors in the South Central region, with the highest compensation ($298,000).
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic.
  • Personalities:  the average emergency physician tends to be efficient, energetic, friendly, and confident.

  1. Wow, your blog is so organized. It was surprising when I read that nurses only make $66,640 a year before taxes, I thought they made a lot more.

  2. These are all really different kinds of jobs. It would probably be a good idea to start to figure out what area of these occupations you like the best. An emergency physician could definitely be an interesting choice, good luck!
