Blog Post 3

After graduating from high school, I hope to go to to a college that offers an excellent Pre-Med program. However, if I choose to change this at some point within the upcoming year, I would probably try to major in some form of biological sciences.

1. Staff Neurologist
Average Pay: $200-250k per year (without taxes)
Education: To be hired for this job, I would have to go through a four year college. Afterwards, I would need to attend medical school, and specialize in neurology. I would also need to have experience in the NIOM field, which would train me in the field of neurophysiology.
Locations: The job description lists that this would be a job that can be done in the house, and you can live anywhere, but it is recommended that you live in the Los Angeles area.
Traits: Since this is a position that is worked from the house, effective communication would be necessary when communicating results with colleagues. Effective teamwork would also be necessary to work with the other doctors.

2. Physician Assistant- Forensic Medical Services
Average Pay: $67.18- 95.10 per hour (without taxes)
Education: To get hired for this job, I would have to go through training in a Rape Treatment Center, I would have to had previously been a Physician's Assistant for at least one year, and I would have to pass a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner training.
Locations: The pay for this job does not vary much throughout the different states, due to the fact that these jobs require almost the same education levels. This job, specifically, is located in San Francisco.
Traits: Effective communication would be crucial to relay results to other physicians, and to maintain appropriate relations with the different patients. You would also need to know how to effectively cope with pressure, especially with the difficult situations you would be faced with.

3. Biochemist
Average Pay: This is not listed in the job description on the website, but biochemists make, on average, around $105k per year (without taxes)
Education: BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field Must have 3-5 years of experience working with immunoassays and bio sensors, Proven ability to accomplish technical tasks both independently and as a member of a research team, Experience of screening strategies for the selection of antibodies for use in clinical diagnostic products, Experience of antibody purification, conjugation and characterization, Experience of techniques used to purify and characterize small molecules and/or proteins, Specific experience in Lateral Flow test development and production is required.
Locations: Biochemists have high wages here in California, but the the highest paid biochemists reside in Pennsylvania.
Traits: Professionalism, Effective Communication, Good Hygiene, Dedication, Diligence
