Science was always something that I found fascinating and that I loved to learn about, and throughout high school as I began taking a wider variety of science classes, a career in science and medicine became more and more appealing. I have always loved working with kids, ever since I was young, so the more I thought about it, a career in pediatric medicine sounded like something that I would want to pursue. In college I hope to major in Biology or Anatomy and Physiology

1. Pediatric Nurse

A pediatric nurse is someone who specializes in caring for children from infancy through their late teen years. Tasks of a pediatric nurse run from performing physical examinations and taking blood samples to calming and communicating with scared children.
  • The average annual salary before taxes is $79,635, but the salaries of pediatric nurses do vary depending on where you live and what hospital you work at.
  • Education requirement is achieving a certification as a registered nurse, earn a bachelors degree in nursing from a 4-year college, take early childhood development classes, and pass a licensing exam. You can go from there or decide to get a Masters degree to become a clinical nurse specialist or a nurse practitioner.
  • Personalities of people who are pediatric nurses are ones that are friendly and calming and that are fun and happy and that can work with children.

2. Pediatric Surgeon

A pediatric surgeon is someone who treats a child’s illness or medial condition through an invasive operation. Most pediatric surgeons specialize in treating specific development ages of children.
  • The average annual salary before taxes of all surgeons is $233,000, however salary does vary greatly depending on what hospital you work for as well as where you live.
  • Education requirements for becoming a pediatric surgeon involves 4 years of undergraduate schooling, 4 years of medical school, 7 years of residency in a hospital as well as a one year fellowship.
  • Pediatric surgeons need to have personalities that are friendly and respectful, as well as competitive.

3. Physician’s Assistant

A physician’s assistant is a medical provider who is licensed to diagnose and treat illnesses as well as prescribe medications for patients. They generally work in physician’s office and collaborate with a licensed physician.
  • The average starting salary of a physician’s assistant before tax is $90,000, but it does vary depending on region as well as what hospital or practice you work for.
  • The education required to become a physician’s assistant includes getting a bachelors degree, graduating from an accredited PA program, passing a national certification exam, and obtaining a license in the state in which they would like to practice.

  1. I also love science classes as well and look forward to taking more in the future. All the jobs you chose are very interesting. Becoming a pediatric surgeon requires a lot of schooling but may be worth it in the end, especially if you really enjoy science classes.
